Patterned vs Frosted vs Satin Glass
Patterned, frosted and satin glass may serve similar decorative or privacy goals, but their surface formation, appearance and processing behaviour differ. Procurement should start from the target appearance and use case.
What is patterned glass?
A permanent pattern on the glass surface can diffuse vision while transmitting light, making it useful for privacy and decorative applications.
What does frosted glass mean?
A matte or translucent appearance can be produced through different manufacturing or surface processes. An RFQ should reference the intended finish rather than relying on the word “frosted” alone.
How is satin glass different?
Satin commonly describes a more uniform soft-matte appearance; surface feel and light diffusion are best confirmed by sample.
Can these products be tempered?
It may be possible depending on the product and processing route, but tempering suitability should be confirmed by the manufacturer or processor.
Why do samples matter?
Privacy level, pattern density, colour and light diffusion can look different from catalogue images, so samples are useful for visible applications.
