BALUSTRADE GLASS · SAFETY GLAZING
Tempered, Laminated and Heat-Soak Options for Balustrade Glass
Balustrade glass should not be selected by thickness alone. Post-breakage behaviour, mounting system, holes/edges and the project safety approach need to be considered together.
Single tempered or laminated?
The appropriate build-up depends on application, panel size, fixing method and project/local requirements. Laminated construction deserves particular attention where post-breakage retention matters.
When does heat-soak testing become relevant?
A project specification may require HST for tempered glass. If so, the test standard and reporting expectation should be stated explicitly in the RFQ.
Why are holes and point fixings critical?
Hole diameter, edge distance, tolerances and compatibility with the fixing hardware matter in areas of concentrated stress.
What does edge quality affect?
Beyond appearance, edge processing may influence production and heat-treatment performance, so the required grinding/polishing type should be defined.
How should the RFQ be structured?
Include glass build-up, thickness, dimensions, fixing system, holes, interlayer, HST requirement, quantity and delivery basis.
