GLASS PROCUREMENT · STANDARDS
What Do EN 572, EN 12150 and EN 1279 Mean in Glass Procurement?
A quotation saying only “CE compliant” or “meets standards” is not enough. The applicable product standard and required testing or performance scope should be explicit.
What does EN 572 cover?
It relates to basic soda-lime silicate glass products for building use, including product characteristics and dimensional/quality requirements.
What does EN 12150 cover?
It covers thermally toughened soda-lime silicate safety glass and associated product and fragmentation requirements.
What does EN 1279 cover?
It is a standards series addressing insulated glass units and their manufacturing/performance requirements.
Is quoting the standard number enough?
No. Local regulation, CE/DoP needs, test reports and project-specific requirements should also be checked.
How should standards appear in an RFQ?
State the product type together with the required standard, performance class and documentation/test expectations.
